Teaching
Are you interested in developing your flute or piano playing?
I am a trained flute teacher with an instrumental pedagogy degree from SMI in Stockholm and have taught a lot over the years, both privately and at various schools around Sweden. I have worked at Södra Latin and SMI in Stockholm as well as Kulturskolan in various subjects. I have mostly given lessons in flute, piano, music theory and improvisation. One of my specialties is that I also hold Workshops in flute improvisation and how to develop your own creativity, which I think is both fun and important to share.
You decide what you want to focus on, how to get a better tone, breathing, your own creativity, technique or perhaps gain greater insight into interpretation and a specific composer or genre that you want to develop.
As a classically trained flutist, I have my own niche in that I have improvised and played a lot of jazz. If you want to develop your improvisation, we can also help you with that!
Skype lessons also work well if you live in another part of the world, I usually tailor a plan for each student, all levels and all ages are welcome.
I teach mainly in Stockholm but also across Sweden and internationally. Feel free to contact me if you are interested in flute or piano lessons or any other subject at the following email address: info@magnusbage.com

After taking flute lessons at several study associations, I have finally found the optimal teacher. Magnus Båge has been my flute teacher since December last year and I feel that I have developed at the pace I wanted. I am a so-called senior beginner student and it has not been a problem for Magnus to have older students. I have received well-adapted teaching and have been “pushed” by Magnus with great enthusiasm.
Magnus has helped me develop my tone formation both theoretically and physically and given me homework that has been developmental and followed up on the next lesson. The lessons have been very fun and varied where Magnus has accompanied both on the piano and sometimes played a second part on the flute. Magnus has been very flexible regarding the scope of the teaching, such as the length of the lessons and how often you want to come. The spring semester ended with a workshop where we were several adult students who got to play together. Magnus had prepared different parts for quartet playing and a pianist was hired to accompany. We also had the opportunity to try out both the alto flute and bass flute. Incredibly fun!

Andy’s mother Juliet: “Andy (on the left in the photo) has been playing piano for Magnus for 8 months. Magnus is not Andy’s first teacher, but he makes Andy enjoy playing the piano. Magnus uses many lively and interesting teaching methods and different tools to capture his students’ interest. Andy enjoys his piano lessons with Magnus. Andy felt sad when he realized that we were leaving Sweden for a couple of years. Andy would like to continue playing the piano with Magnus when we get back to Sweden.”
After playing the flute for 35 years, I found Magnus and so many aha-experiences it was! It’s obvious that Magnus likes to teach, he is incredibly enthusiastic, inspiring and happy to offer all his knowledge. Every lesson I get lots of tips and tricks that make playing easier and more fun and many times I have thought “why hasn’t anyone told me that before?”. I always leave the lessons with a smile. I highly recommend Magnus to anyone who wants to develop their flute playing – regardless of their level of ambition.

First lesson: a revelation! A small detail and the tone was set. It’s not that long since I started flute lessons with Magnus but what an improvement! From screaming high notes, an anarchy of tempi and a far too poor intonation to improvements I didn’t know I was capable of. Magnus has been a great source of inspiration with his long and diverse experience as a music teacher and artist. Thank you!

Magnus has helped me take my flute playing to a new level! After 3 semesters in a beginner’s group, I wanted to develop my playing technique further and I have really received help with this. Magnus is good at guiding through all the small steps needed to develop my playing. Every lesson provides new inspiration thanks to Magnus’ encouragement and instructive advice. I have gained a whole new interest in the flute and the progress has made playing more enjoyable.

I have a busy life and don’t have much time to study flute, so every minute really counts. Magnus understands that and helped me focus on what’s important, what will really make a difference and not waste time. When I started taking lessons with him, I had been playing flute for 2 weeks. After a few months and a few lessons, I could play several songs and play with other musicians. The progress I’ve made in such a short time is absolutely incredible to me…

16 years ago I started taking piano lessons. The piano teacher I had at the time never made any demands or rarely gave me homework, which meant that I developed very slowly. The intervals between lessons also became longer and longer. At that point, a friend told me about Magnus Båge and I started as his student. What a difference it made! It has now been almost 3 years and I look forward to each lesson as the highlight of the week. I have developed enormously and playing the piano has become my fuel thanks to Magnus’s fantastic ability to teach. The fact that he is now one of the nicest and humblest people I have ever met doesn’t make it any worse. Choose your hypnotists with care. Choose Magnus Båge!
Björn Persson. Piano student.
I had the opportunity to start with Magnus at the age of 12, as I had previously attended the Lidingö music school with a teacher who neither encouraged nor helped me develop much. When I started with Magnus, a new part of the music world opened up as he not only inspired and gave good advice, but also listened to me and took my musical taste into account. After a long summer vacation without a piano in 2016, I lost my enthusiasm a bit, but after another lesson with Magnus, I have become more inspired to actually play a lot at home and enjoy it.
Astrid Wanecek, 15 years old
I have been playing flute with Magnus for just under a year and consider myself lucky to have found him as a flute teacher. I have made progress that I never thought was possible so quickly. I think it is because Magnus can give me concrete tools for how to work with the flute and with a piece. He has a very good sense of what I need and how high he can set the bar. The lessons and pieces I receive are challenging, but they are always manageable and I feel proud when I have mastered a difficulty. I always leave his lesson filled with energy and joy about my instrument. I recommend him wholeheartedly!
