Magnus Båge is a prominent Swedish flutist who has established himself as one of the country's most sought-after soloists since 1990 and is now also becoming known as a composer and innovator.
Magnus Båge received his soloist diploma from the Royal College of Music in 1994, when he performed Mozart’s flute concerto with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since then, he has been highly sought after as a soloist and has worked as a section leader in several of Sweden’s leading orchestras, including the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
Several Swedish composers have written works specifically for Magnus, including Rolf Martinsson, Jan Sandström, and Anna-Lena Laurin. His unique approach to the instrument is enhanced by his own invention – the mouthpiece “The Expression slide” which has a Swedish patent and enables effects that were never before possible on the flute.
As a recording artist, Magnus has gained international recognition. The renowned flutist Sir James Galway called his 2003 debut album “a milestone in the history of flute playing”. Since 2006, Magnus has also established himself as a composer. His children’s opera is performed throughout Sweden, and his Missa Brevis has received standing ovations and is now performed by several church choirs in Stockholm.
